Microneedling Fountain Valley

Microneedling is a non-surgical, minimally invasive treatment that uses tiny needles to create micro-channels in the skin. This triggers the body’s natural healing process, leading to increased collagen and elastin production and a more youthful, radiant complexion.

Micro-needling is one of the most innovative treatments used to improve the liveliness of the skin through texture. When aging starts occurring in our body, our skin loses elastin and collagen. These are the main proteins in the body that give the skin its buoyancy and thickness. They are also responsible for the thickness and strength of the skin. Microneedling is used to create microchannels on the skin so that it is used to re-generate these proteins to provide anti-aging capabilities in the human skin. For this reason, the skin will start appearing smoother because of the production of these essential building blocks.

What is SkinPen?

SkinPen is a unique pen-shaped microneedling system that uses tiny, sterile needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. These micro-injuries stimulate the natural healing process of the body, triggering the production of collagen and elastin – two essential components that maintain the youthful appearance and elasticity of the skin.

During the procedure, the provider gently guides the SkinPen device across the targeted area, creating microscopic punctures in the skin. These microchannels allow for better absorption and penetration of topical serums and growth factors, maximizing their effectiveness in addressing specific skin concerns.

One of the key benefits of SkinPen microneedling is its versatility. It can effectively treat a wide range of skin issues, including acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and even reduce the appearance of stretch marks. Additionally, it can improve overall skin texture, leaving it smoother, firmer, and more radiant.

Procedure

Microneedling stimulates the skin’s healing response encouraging the production of precious growth factors, collagen and elastin for a naturally rejuvenated, revitalized and regenerated skin. Microneedling increases the production of collagen and other healing factors by causing trauma to the skin. Collagen is an essential protein that helps keep the skin looking youthful, with a firm, smooth, and stretchy texture. Aging causes the decline of collagen in the skin, contributing to wrinkles and other signs of aging. Skin can also lose collagen due to injuries, such as acne scarring, stretch marks, or other scars.

Our medical professionals will carefully evaluate your skin to determine the best microneedling treatment for your individual needs and skin type. Our treatments are quick, comfortable, and safe, with little to no downtime required.

Expectations

Microneedling uses very fine needles to precisely puncture your skin. These tiny micro punctures stimulate the body’s natural healing process, which then triggers collagen production.

The skin’s production of collagen declines over the years, causing loose skin and wrinkles. Following microneedling, your new collagen-rich skin is stronger and more resilient. As a result, wrinkles are smoothed away and you look younger. Microneedling is effective on its own, as it restores your skin’s strength and tone. The addition accelerates healing and enhances your overall results.

Microneedling alone fights the sign of aging by:

  • Diminishing the appearance of wrinkles
  • Eliminating brown spots
  • Tightening and toning your skin
  • Minimizing pores
  • Minimizing the appearance of scars

Microneedling is safe for all skin types and can be used on your face as well as other areas of your body.

During The Procedure

After microneedling, you may experience mild swelling and redness. Some patients develop a little bruising. These side effects will not last long. It takes time for your body to produce collagen and elastin and for new skin cells to come to the surface. As a result, you’ll gradually see smoother, tighter skin over a few weeks.

Downtime

Facial redness may last up to 2-3 days post-treatment. Make-up may be used 24 hours post-procedure to reduce any visible redness. Most patients can resume normal activities immediately after treatment.

Number Of Treatments

Generalized rejuvenation can be achieved in a little as three treatments. Conditions such as scarring and stretch marks however may require a minimum of 5 sessions. Depending on the condition being targeted, treatments are performed on average ever 4-8 weeks.

Types Of Microneedling

Hyaluronic Acid

How Does Hyaluronic Acid Work with Microneedling?

The micro-needling process opens up the skin and allows it to better absorb products and serums to help optimize results. Hyaluronic acid is a compound that is found naturally in the body, and when absorbed into the skin after micro-needling, it can aid in adding volume to visible signs of aging to smooth and tighten the skin. This special serum is also used to lubricate the skin during treatment, maximizing client comfort while providing nourishing hyaluronic acid to the skin.

Hyaluronic acid is ideal for clients with visible signs of aging who are interested in optimizing their results with a treatment that improves their skin over time.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)

How Does Platelet-rich plasma PRP work with Microneedling?

Microneedling with PRP stimulates collagen production by rolling fine needles over the skin and applying platelets, which are one of the components of blood. The addition of PRP from the blood may make microneedling more effective. The liquid in blood is plasma, while platelets are solid. Platelets help blood clot, so they are vital for healing wounds and injuries. PRP is plasma in which the concentration of platelets is higher than that of other components of the blood.

A blood sample will be taken and then use a spinning tool called a centrifuge to separate the PRP from the rest of the blood. Our practitioner will use a microneedling tool to prick the skin, making tiny holes in the skin’s surface. They will then apply PRP to these tiny holes to encourage collagen production and cell reproduction.

PRP contains proteins, including growth factors and cytokines. These proteins help skin tissue repair itself.

People may consider having microneedling with PRP if they want to treat certain marks or blemishes on the body or face for cosmetic reasons. Practitioners may use microneedling with PRP to treat:

  • acne scars
  • surgical scars
  • wrinkles and fine lines
  • hyperpigmentation
  • sun damage
  • large pores
  • uneven skin texture

The addition of PRP to microneedling may speed up the healing process and stimulate skin renewal, potentially producing better results than microneedling alone.

Procedure Prep

Avoid Accutane in the six months prior to beginning your treatment sessions. Do not use topical agents that may increase the sensitivity of your skin such as retinoids, exfoliants, topical antibiotics, or acids 5-7 days prior to your treatment. Do not take anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil for at least 3 days prior to your micro needling session. These will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical for your skin rejuvenation. Avoid IPL/Laser procedures, unprotected sun exposure, or sunburn for at least 2 weeks prior to your procedure. No waxing, depilatory creams, or electrolysis to the area being treated for 5-7 days prior. Do not shave the day of the procedure to avoid skin irritation. If there’s dense hair present in the treatment area, shave the day before you arrive for your appointment. If you’re prone to cold sores, take an antiviral agent for 2 days prior to and the day of the treatment. Avoid blood-thinning agents for one week prior because bruising is a common side effect of micro needling.

How is Procedure Performed?

  • In preparation, your face will be thoroughly cleaned
  • Your skin will be numbed with local anesthetics.
  • Fine needles to precisely puncture your skin stimulating the body’s natural healing process, which then triggers collagen production.
  • Treatment time will last approximately 60 minutes

Recovery

After microneedling, you may experience mild swelling and redness. Some patients develop a little bruising. It takes time for your body to produce collagen and elastin and for new skin cells to come to the surface. As a result, you’ll gradually see smoother, tighter skin over a few weeks.

Facial redness may last up to 2-3 days post-treatment. Avoid strenuous exercises that cause sweating as well as whirlpools, saunas, and steam baths for up to 48 hours. Make-up may be used 24 hours post-procedure to reduce any visible redness. Most patients can resume normal activities immediately after treatment.

Peeling may start 3-5 days after the treatment. You’ll notice skin dryness and flaking which is due to an increased turnover of skin cells. Do not pick, scratch, or scrub at treated skin! Within a week, you may start your regular skin care products again once your skin no longer feels irritated. Most of our patients have noticed continued skin improvement over the months following their last treatment.

Results

Results appear over two to three months, they can last up to a year or more. Since the procedure stimulates a person’s own collagen production, how long the results last depend on the individual. The treatment produces new collagen on the inside, but the individual’s natural aging process will dictate how long that translates into visible results on the outside. Future touch-up treatments can help provide more control over the aging process, which varies by individual.
